Union Learning Activities
You live and learn says the old cliché, and like many of those old sayings it expresses a common reality of life's natural development. But sometimes we can use some assistance with our learning and advice on the direction that learning might take.
The CWU, like other trade unions is extending its area of influence into members learning and development, both within, and outside of the workplace. In today's world of work, people need to constantly upgrade and improve their work skills as part of their ongoing personal development. It's not all about work though, important as this is. Learning and development should be enjoyable and doesn't need to be limited to gaining certificates and qualifications.
The union is currently running a number of free courses in partnership with local colleges and the range on offer is growing all the time. The courses are held at locations all around London and the Southeast, so the chances are that you'll find one near to your workplace or where you live.
The union has also recently (and continues to) trained a number of Union Learning Representatives (ULR), who are able to offer you advice and guidance on all aspects of learning and development (work related or not). Unfortunately, the union will not be able to offer free courses in all subjects, but a ULR may be able to help you to negotiate with your manager to get funding from your employer for learning activities. The possibilities are endless.
All personal information given to ULR's by members is treated in the strictest confidence, and will not be divulged to anyone else without your express permission. On the reverse side of this page, you will find a short questionnaire relating to union learning activities. Please take the time (it should only take a couple of minutes) to complete the survey and return it to the branch office below.
