BT management, are now making sure that your laptop is safe in your vehicle.
They are providing a steel box in the rear of vans in which you are instructed
to keep your laptop when not in use.
In fact they have made it a disciplinary offence to leave it anywhere else but
the steel box unattended in your van, and go to great lengths to recover the
cost from you if its stolen.
WHAT MANAGEMENT HAVEN'T DONE, IS TO ADDRESS THE REAL ELEMENTS OF CONCERN TO YOU
AS AN EMPLOYEE…
What risks are you being taking by using your laptop in your vehicle, on the
street corner or even in the customer's premises?
For some time now, the CWU have been asking BT to address this issue by
carrying out risk assessments to ensure that all is being done to make the risk
to your health & safety as minimal as possible.
The CWU have now finally received these Generic Risk Assessments for comment
and will be responding outlining our concerns with them. If not resolved to our
satisfaction, in London the CWU will be seeking meetings within the lines of
business to address this issue.
Management's reluctance to deal with this issue in the past has caused us great
concern and we will be doing everything we can to overcome this matter over the
coming weeks.
Further details will be issued in due course.
